Val di Fiemme

Valle di Fiemme: one of the main Dolomite valleys, which marks the border with South Tyrol. It is crossed by the Avisio river and bordered by famous mountains such as the Logorai Chain and the Latemar Group. Moreover, it lies between two natural parks: Paneveggio Pale di San Martino and Monte Corno. The whole valley can be defined as a natural park, thanks to the extension of the woods. In addition to winter sports and hiking in summer it is known for the production of wood from the Paneveggio forest. Particularly well known is the spruce that grows up to 50 meters high. The main places of interest are Predazzo and Cavalese.

Predazzo: situated in the upper part of Val di Fiemme is one of the two main centres of the valley, as well as being the most extensive and populated place. It is located at the confluence of the Traviglio and the Avisio rivers and is famous for its marble and woodworking. Predazzo is considered the "Geological Garden of the Alps", as it boasts the highest concentration of geological varieties in the region.

In the summer period the main activities are linked to hiking, mountain-biking, traditional cycling and trekking.

During the winter period, ski-related activities prevail. Predazzo is in fact connected to the Bellamonte - Alpe Lusia ski complex which has 8 ski lifts and 40 km of slopes, which, thanks to the very low slopes, are suitable for any need. For the more expert skiers there are the slopes of Fiemme - Oberregen.

Moreover, in Predazzo there is the well-known Trampoline Giuseppe dal Ben, known as the Jump Stadium. An area composed of two main trampolines and three for training and completely dedicated to ski jumps. In 1991, 2003 and 2013 it hosted the Nordic Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined World Championship.

Both in winter and summer you can visit the Geological Museum of the Dolomites, a museum specializing in the geology of the Dolomites. It has a series of local pantheontological samples and an extraordinary collection of mineral rocks and fossils, but also scientific publications that testify to the studies on the formation of the Dolomites. It is a great geological heritage on a national level.
